【日本樂散步】電車上的安心

Why Japanese People!?是美籍日本搞笑藝人在表演時,氣憤地以亮聲說出的口頭禪,他用開玩笑的方法帶出外國人不明解的日本大小事。一直有兩個 Why 關於地鐵或火車(日本稱為電車)的日常生態,最近終於得解明瞭,原因是「安心」!

Train 1電車裡人們的熟睡相,成了外國遊客驚訝的「和風」異風景之一。日本的電車上經常可見頭歪、熟睡的男女老幼,更有進入深眠狀態,手機離手滑跌地上。白領人士通夜在露天休憩區睡覺;午餐後,在公園的長椅或草地上合眼休息的上班人也隨處可見,包包隨手放。大疑惑產生,別國的人們在陌生人面前那敢把眼合上,財物都緊緊抱著。日本的治安太好?安全到人人夠膽量在公眾地方睡覺,不怕謀財害命?還是全世界最長工作時間的日本人太辛苦,長期睡眠不足,站著坐著都可以進入夢中?

原來與傳統睡眠習慣有關係,古今的日本人多睡在舖疊疊米的和室,一家大小以川字式,小孩子們都從小給父母左右夾在中間,一人一張布團床或共用一張,排排睡的狀態休息。和風旅館也是一間和室多張布團床,客人們都以川字型的排著睡。一出生就習慣與人貼著一起睡,安心的心理習慣讓他們在人多的地方也很容易入睡。學者有說,這也是長大後不夠獨立自主的因由。不像北美人,由零歲起已經獨個兒睡覺,不太適應與人同室同床。加上治安問題,更不能在人多勢眾的環境上安心休息,財物也貼身地抓緊。

睡著時防守能力最低,在安全的環境下,或有信任的人留守才能放鬆入睡。你躺下,必不懼怕;你躺臥,睡得香甜(箴言3:24),這是天父賜予人的祝福,擁有平安的心,不掛慮、憂愁的腦袋,才會睡得甜熟。當心很亂、很無助時,我就以禱告把心事交給天父,才蓋上被子,信任祂的大能及守護去睡一安心覺,睡得好有精神,才能積極面對困難。

隨處可以合眼休息的習慣,身體語言反映了對人的信賴,如小朋友因信任身邊人,不害怕沒擔心,能隨時、隨處睡。在電車睡了的人相信身邊的人不會傷害他們,醒著的乘客也無意識地幫忙守著別人的財物,真是有點不可思議的互動。君不見,電車站多的是呼籲注意「癡漢」(色情狂)的海報,還真是少看到謹防小偷的標語。包包或手提電話在電車上遺留了,95% 都會找得回,還一錢不少。在這貪婪的世代中真是怪異的安心文化,不是一少部分人的行為,而是整個社會文化。海外旅行團出發前,都會收到守護財物指南,教導國民在海外要提高警覺,注意四周;用餐時,包包不能離手,因為人人習慣把東西隨便放置身後或椅上,拉鍊也不拉上;遇上會講日文的陌生人或日本人也要小心警戒等。長住在安全環境中,人性防禦系統的功能也減弱了,危機意識也低下。

另外有個有趣的發現,在電車總站上車,為數不多的乘客們一入無人的車廂,全部都自選坐在近門口隔離壁旁的邊端座位,中間的座位全部空空。當邊端座位一有空位,人們就自動移座佔領。餐廳或食店,食客的首選也是靠牆邊或角位。為什麼選擇此位置?兩旁沒有人的中間座,不是更舒適?

原因又是有邊靠、有界線給予日本人安心感,境界線阻隔了別人,把所在地方畫入自己的領域。邊端座位有一塊玻璃或板隔絕別人,是全車或全廳最令人安心的座位。乘客也很自覺尊重別人的境界線,如電車的地面兩色分三個區域,坐著的乘客會自律地把腳平放在座位下,離椅子約一腳距離的線內,以免自己的腳影響到站在另一顏色中的乘客,傷殘人士或優先座的地面也用不同顏色區分。

大門一開,日本的家總有一少片的地方畫出稱為玄關,用作放鞋及出迎客人。玄關的地面用料及高度差段一定與屋內不同,明顯上下分開兩個空間,讓居者有了私密的安全感。把客人留在大門外等候有點失禮,所以先把客人迎入玄關停留,在這脫鞋、整理衣服及拿出禮物等,主人家也有時間以最好的狀態迎客,雙方都準備好,才越過玄關境界線由迎客者引進主室。

日本的屋子總愛用植物或欄杆把主屋遮掩,明顯地把自家與別人的地方分隔,不像北美的開放式前園草地,大門窗戶一覽無遺。還有,最近新開的汽車旅館,客房門與汽車間規定要加一排欄杆,一線相隔才能批准合法營業。一條有形、無形的線竟帶來安心......保持適度距離,尊重別人的私隱空間在日本是基本禮儀。

文化習慣引至待人處事的差異,沒有對錯,要用心去理解。存心謙卑,看別人比自己強,學習接受雙方的不同,尊重並守護各人的需要,讓大家都能安心生活在同一空間中。

憂愁 Worry

主雖使人憂愁, 還要照他諸般的慈愛發憐憫。耶利米哀歌 3:32
