Afterthought on Yang Shen’s poem titled “Lin Jiang Xian”

詩人體味世情，感受人生苦短，成敗有何分別？山河依舊，日出日落；人漸老矣，白髮蒼蒼，歷盡滄桑。哀哉！沒有出路。詩人拿壺酒來寄託悲情，把心靈醉倒。古今詩人墨客，英雄豪傑，大多如是逃避，如此無奈！

感謝神！我們認識神，見 "凡事都是虛空" (傳道書12：8b)。"塵土仍歸於地，靈仍歸於賜靈的神" (傳道書12：7)。傳道者叫我們：

"你趁著年幼，衰敗的日子尚未來到（就是所說:我毫無喜樂的那些年日未臨近之先），當記念你的主。"

"... ...敬畏神，謹守祂的誡命，這是人所當盡的本分。因為人所作的事，連一切隱藏的事，無論是善是惡，神都必審問。" (傳道書：12 1； 13 - 14)

基督徒有神永恆的愛，有未來的盼望。又何需借酒消愁，豈不是愁更愁嗎？ . . . . . . 有了人生的目標，了悟人生的意義，活在永恆的愛裏，就會如鷹反老還童。

願神 "堅立我們手所作的；我們手所作的，願你堅立。" (詩篇九十: 17b) 奉主耶穌基督的名祈禱，阿們。

The poet imbued with the reality of life is moved. He laments the bitterness and brevity of life. What is the difference between "success" and "failure"？

Mountains and rives remain； the sun rises and sets, the man (poet) is gradually aging. Alas！ The gray hair having experienced through the storm of life has no exit to escape. The poet carouses and gets intoxicated in alcohol. Through the ages till nowadays, the poets and scholars, heroes, and many would try to escape in the same way. This is not endurable.

Thanks to God！ We behold, "Everything is meaningless" (Ecclesiastics 12:8b). ". . . The dust returns to the ground it came from and the spirit returns to God who gave it" (Ecclesiastics 12:7).

The Teacher says, "Remember Your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach . . . ." ". . . Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man, For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil"(Ecclesiastics 12:1； 13-14).

Christians have God's eternal love and hope. There is no need to get drunk to bid good riddance to sadness. Otherwise, sad will become sadder. If we know the purpose and meaning of life, and imbibe in it, we shall live in the eternity of love like eagle being rejuvenated.

"May the fear of the Lord our God, establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands" (Psalm 90:17b).

滾滾長江東逝水，浪花濤盡英雄，是非成敗轉頭空。

青山依舊在，幾度夕陽紅。

白髮漁樵江渚上，慣看秋月春風。

一壺濁酒喜相逢。

古今多少事，都付笑談中。

Translation of the above poem by Yang Shen in Ming Dynasty:

The Yangtze River rushing towards the East as though many past heroes were washed away by the wavy currents. "Right" or "wrong"； "success" or "failure" is only momentary. And

The mountains still remain as green； and the twilight crimson.

The grey-hairs (the woodcutters and the fishermen) in the work environments are used to watching the beautiful autumn moon, and enjoying the spring breeze.

Now, we cheerfully meet and carouse with bottles of wind they've brought.

There are so many things in the past and the present to talk about—all are matters in our ironic laughter. (Yang Shen)
